Born and raised on a peninsula in the south-west of The Netherlands, I started photographing horses at a young age. Admittedly sometimes their heads weren't in the picture, but that soon improved!
When I wanted my own camera at the age of 15, I cleaned hotel rooms for 6 weeks, resulting in a proper Minolta Dynax 7000i.
When I was 18 I was given the opportunity to work in racing in England, with Sir Mark Prescott. I loved it so much that spent many years working in some great yards. I can honestly say that I have ridden a Grand National winner (Rough Quest), albeit a few years before the event! I was also very lucky to be at David Nicholson's when he was champion trainer (1994/95).
After achieving a BSc (Hons) in Equine Science I spent some years teaching, at first in Holland and later as an instructor at the British Racing School, in the meantime training my own horses under permit.
All this time, photography continued to be a hobby and when a switched to digital photography, I followed a course at the University for the Creative Arts.
At that time, I was frequently photographing for my employer's website, Darley Rehoming.
I am a professional photographer since 2013 and based in the south-west of the Netherlands. (I recently discovered at a wedding in Suffolk that I was nearer than the couple's friends coming from Scotland!)
