Even though I took this photo in 1991, I still remember the young lad's offence which led to this sticky situation. He had failed to clean out one of his horses' water mangers. That was simply not done at Heath House Stables, because if you wouldn't drink out of it, you cannot expect your horse to.
This is undoubtedly just one example of the attention to detail that head lad Colin Nutter (centre) instilled in his staff over the 45 years that he has now worked for Sir Mark Prescott. Back then, it was my very first job in racing and I not only learnt an incredible amount but also had a wonderful time, because Colin managed to combine working hard with keeping a great atmosphere in the yard.
Many congratulations to Colin for winning the Dedication To Racing award last night at the Godolphin Stud and Stable Awards!
The very first thing he taught me? That I should speak with two words when answering Sir Mark. A simple "yes" was not enough, it should be "yes, sir".
